Make a Donation
School libraries help students succeed. Your financial donation will help bring new books and other materials, comfortable seating, and other resources to needy HISD libraries, helping promote literacy and learning.
We are an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of your gift will go directly to supporting HISD libraries for the benefit of HISD students.
The donation button below allows you to make a donation via credit card, debit card, or PayPal. If you prefer to give via check or in another way, or if you have any questions, please contact us.
Friends of HISD Libraries is a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our EIN is 93-2604390. Thank you!
Volunteer
Volunteer opportunities arise throughout the year. Projects can include shelving books, helping with book fairs, and “weeding” worn or outdated books.
Having assistance with these tasks gives the library staff more time to work with students and classroom teachers. While some libraries are fortunate to have parent volunteers, families in many school communities are simply unable to provide this kind of support.
Please note that adults who wish to volunteer within HISD must take a brief online training course regarding HISD’s procedures and expectations, and must undergo a background check. For more information about this process, please visit HISD’s Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) website.

“If we all believe that reading is fundamental, then we must invest in practices that have been proven, time and time again, to be foundational for reading success. Having robust school libraries with certified librarians in them is paramount.”
– Dr. Julie Baker Finck, President & CEO, Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation
